UREI means melancholy with a warm and positive sentiment. Grown using the special Hokumei cultivar, this green tea has a flowery flavour and a lingering fruity taste. This taste is acheived through a unique technique where the tea leaves are left to wither on the tree for a longer period than normal.

Our farmer, Okutomi-san, has built a strong reputation for his “withered sencha”, also referred to as Itcho-Cha (萎凋茶). This technique is uncommon in Japan and UREI stands out as one of the few Japanese green teas with a taste comparable to black or Ulong tea.
